ABOUT DAVID ALLAN
It is hard to summarize almost 40 years of a career in a few lines, but I think that certain qualities can come through and speak for themselves. I have always had a passion for design and creating beautiful living spaces. I believe that everyone deserves a comfortable, safe home no matter what their economic situation. We spend a large percentage of our lives in our homes and they should reflect our hopes and aspirations. We have a lot of demands on our time and money, and I believe that what we invest in our living space comes back to us in peace of mind, comfort and security.
A modern home designer is more like a product design manager. There are so many variables that must be weighed and kept in balance. Regional variations, components of construction, methods of construction, targeted market, affordability and many other considerations are crucial to the design and final product. However, to put these variables together in a thoughtful, interesting way with a touch of flair is what defines true excellence.
A modern home building organization is very much a team, whether it is a large multi-million dollar company or a small localized group of independent contractors. The Design Manager is in many ways like the quarterback of a football team. They absolutely require the team around them to be excellent, but they are the ones that actually call the plays on the field. However, they also require excellent coaching, talent acquisition and strategic planning to ultimately win because it is still a team sport.
I have had the good fortune to have been able to work with and learn from some of the best people in the industry. I believe that every experience, good or bad, should be a learning experience. I will continue to use every opportunity as a learning experience am looking forward to working with another great team.
I have had the opportunity to work on most levels of housing including entry level, move up, estate, pure custom and have even been touching on multi-family in the last few years. I also have a keen eye for graphic design and photography as well, and these areas along with 3D modelling are very important for presentation.
